I stumbled across this new Stephen King 25 episode web-based series. Just watched the first 5 installments (all that’s there). So far, pretty good. Great art, it’s done in a graphic novel feel with still plates and limited animation. But with a very high quality voice over.

Already on its third episode, Download: The True Story of the Internet is a nostalgic look back at the beginning of the internet, the bubble, the trouble, and the legacy. Discovery Channel (check DSC’s listings) is airing this engaging miniseries, hosted by journalist John Heileman, and I, for one, am hooked. Having lived and worked through the dynamic time portrayed in this docu-journalistic offering I find myself glued to the set. I wanted (heck…want) to be these guys and it’s great to get such a quality pop culture-esque treatment.

CERN turns 54 today!

Back in 1989, Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau initiated a project called ENQUIRE at CERN which was the beginning of the World Wide Web. A copy of the original first webpage, created by Berners-Lee, is kept here (time warp SFX).

The facts are these:

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (or CERN – I know, I know – it should be called EONR right? Well the acronym is French, so stick that in your router and pipe it.) is the world’s largest particle physics laboratory situated in the northwest suburbs of Geneva on the border between France and Switzerland.

Based on the concept of hypertext, the project was aimed at facilitating sharing information among researchers (now look at us). The first website went on-line in 1991. On 30 April 1993, CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be free to anyone (Net Neutrality!!!!!).

A Quick Review

I recently watched this installment to the Wes Anderson filmography and am providing a link to a full review by a much better writer then I ever will be.

Overall, this was a fantastic film. Anderson recieves a great deal of criticism for his lack of originality regarding plot content. Specifically, every movie involves some sort of broken family unit, but if works, I say roll with it (can I get an AMEN?!). The acting was top-notch, especially from new comer (to an Anderson flick) Adrien Brody. The three lead roles (Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman) played quite harmoniously off each other, as well as with the always fantastic Angelica Houston.

As far as cinematography, this film provides some of Anderson’s typical camera work, but adds a bit of grandeur as the viewer is taken for quite a magestic ride over the gorgeous landscapes of India.

I’ll leave the plot for you to decipher for yourself, but I suggest you watch the short film Hotel Chevalier prior, which includes the stunning Natale Portman. If you bought the DVD it will give you the option to view the short prior to the full film. Interestingly, Anderson dubs this mini saga, The Darjeeling Limited: Part 1.

Imdb.com has a rating of 7.7 for this film. I’d go with the full 8/10 stars. So get your hands on this flick, and you won’t be dissappointed. Unless of course you don’t like cool stuff.

Lost season premiere review posted on IGN

The only thing I allowed myself to look at was the score(9.1). I’m hoping it’s 9.1 out of 10, not 100. Read the review here.
