Billboard.com is reporting that the Jack White side-project, The Raconteurs, is releasing its follow-up to 2006’s fantastic Broken Boy Soldiers on March 25. This is apparently way ahead of schedule. The record will be released on ALL formats including digital download, CD and vinyl. I like the fact that bands are following Radiohead’s lead and bypassing the evil corporate record labels as much as possible. These bands only succeed in pleasing their loyal fans by pursuing such endeavors. Let’s face it, people who don’t like The Raconteurs are stupid, but they’ll appreciate music being released on the band’s terms, rather then when some fat “pigvomit” in a cushy corner office who wouldn’t know Jack White from Jack Palance decides he can extract every last dime from the band’s success.Anyway, I highly recommend the 2006 release, and have very high expectations for “Consolers of the Lonely.” Jack White is distinguishing himself as one of the best and most innovative guitarists of this generation. Here’s a link to the Raconteurs official site announcing the early release. Rock on.

Here’s a little something from Trent Reznor(NIN) about how he feels Radiohead is getting credit for doing something half ass and insincere.

Also, I fully admit to being stupid well before I listened to the music on the Raconteurs website. I also have an extremely diverse taste in music. Having said that I have two things..
1.Cool old school website
2.Music is not bad, just didn’t hear anything that jumped out at me… except for ‘Broken Boy Soldier’ which made me want to cut my own ears off and roll duct tape around my head to block out the chance of hearing it again.
Damn Jay, man-crush much? You gonna ask Trent out on a date anytime soon?
BTW, that IS a damn fine site their sporting. Green-screen DOS, when you said old school, I didn’t know you meant OLD school.
Shit.
Isn’t Trent Reznor the same guy that released is own album after breaking contractual ties with Interscope records?
Trent’s comments sound a bit pissy b/c he didn’t get there first. I’d consider myself a moderate NIN fan, and thought Year Zero was phenomenal. The reality is that Reznor’s brain child just doesn’t have the impact that Radiohead does. In reality, what band today can boast such a feat? Reznor has a bit of a history for running his mouth, and it appears that’s exactly what he’s doing here.
There was a fantastic article in Rolling Stone a few months back citing where all the money goes from your $15.99 when you buy your favorite band’s record. While the largest slice goes into the record companies pocket, there are portions sent to the distributor as well as the actual company that packages the music on those little pieces of plastic that miraculously produce monsters like “Too Shy.”
In the end, I think both Radiohead and NIN are attempting to make music that they feel is important and are trying to release it to their loyal fan-bases (which are probably not so dissimilar) without those annoying interferences. But then again, I just get all tingly when I hear Paranoid Android played at 11.
Why is duct tape the solution for everything? I think in the future, we’ll run our cars on a concoction of duct tape and Willie Nelson’s bong resin.
